Electric Vehicle Numbers Surpass 110,000 as Government Eyes Fuel Savings and Green Transition

KEYIR NEWS:-
The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Ethiopia has surpassed 110,000, according to the Ministry of Transport & Logistics. Amelework Ezekiel, the Ministry's Communications Head, told FM Addis 97.1 that both uptake and public awareness are rising steadily.

Officials underscore the shift as a crucial step towards curbing the country’s dependence on imported fuel, which costs over five billion dollars annually. The growing EV fleet is also hailed for its environmental benefits.

The Ministry sees this transition as a strategic milestone aligning with national energy efficiency and sustainability goals. Efforts continue to expand supporting infrastructure, including charging stations and policy frameworks, to further accelerate adoption.
