PM Meets Nigerian Vice President to Discuss Regional Cooperation

KEYIR NEWS:- Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, met with Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima in Addis Ababa on Saturday evening, as the two leaders discussed deepening bilateral relations and tackling pressing continental challenges.

The high-level meeting comes amid growing calls for greater political and economic coordination among African states, particularly in the areas of regional security, trade integration, and climate resilience.

In a brief statement following the talks, Abiy said the two sides had exchanged views on “key bilateral and continental issues,” signalling continued diplomatic engagement between East and West Africa’s most populous nations.

Though specific policy agreements were not announced, observers say the meeting underscores a broader shift towards African-led dialogue on peace, economic development, and collective security, especially as global actors increasingly look to the continent for strategic partnerships.

The visit by Vice President Shettima highlights Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic presence across the continent, with Ethiopia seen as a crucial partner in AU-led initiatives and regional peace processes.
