Abiy and Lula Pledge to Deepen Ethio–Brazil Ties Ahead of BRICS Summit

KEYIR NEWS:- Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) held a high-level bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as preparations intensify for the 17th BRICS Summit.

The meeting, which took place earlier today, marked a significant step towards bolstering diplomatic and economic engagement between the two nations.

In a post shared via his official social media platforms, Prime Minister Abiy described the exchange as “fruitful,” noting that discussions centred on both bilateral relations and broader multilateral matters, with a focus on the evolving role of BRICS in global governance.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in key strategic sectors, including trade and investment. Prime Minister Abiy highlighted that the two countries reached a mutual understanding aimed at strengthening partnerships in areas of shared economic interest.

“This engagement is a milestone in consolidating the growing relations between Ethiopia and Brazil,” Abiy remarked, underscoring the importance of South-South cooperation within multilateral frameworks like BRICS.

President Lula, who has consistently championed the expansion of the BRICS bloc to include voices from the Global South, welcomed Ethiopia’s increased engagement with member states. The dialogue reflects Ethiopia’s broader diplomatic pivot towards strengthening alliances across Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

The timing of the meeting, on the eve of the BRICS Summit, signals a convergence of priorities among emerging economies seeking to redefine global economic and political dynamics.

As both leaders prepare to participate in high-stakes deliberations in Rio de Janeiro, their bilateral dialogue sets the tone for Ethiopia’s growing role in BRICS and its aspiration to serve as a bridge between African and Latin American economies.
