KEYIR NEWS - Addis Ababa is poised to become the epicentre of Africa’s climate diplomacy as preparations intensify for the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), scheduled to take place from 8–10 September 2025. Co-organised by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Union Commission (AUC), the Summit aims to consolidate Africa’s voice on the global climate stage.

With over 45 Heads of State and Government expected, alongside ministers, policymakers, and non-state actors, ACS2 is shaping up to be a critical juncture in Africa’s environmental policy push.

Themed “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” the gathering will showcase African-led initiatives, track progress since the inaugural Nairobi Summit, and build momentum ahead of COP30.

“Africa needs a platform that reflects its priorities and drives real outcomes. ACS2 is that platform,” said Dr Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning & Development.

Organisers have reported overwhelming interest from across the continent, with more than 100 side event proposals submitted and over half of the pavilion space already secured.

Sessions will span climate finance, just transitions, innovation, trade, and nature-based solutions, while spotlighting successful local initiatives in energy, food systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Commissioner Moses Vilakati of the AUC urged AU Member States and partners to rally behind a climate-resilient agenda, noting that Africa’s collective voice must now translate into coordinated action.

As strategic engagements with AU Member States, development partners, and UN agencies continue, organisers have called for further support, financial and in-kind, to ensure the Summit’s delivery and legacy.

With the climate clock ticking and expectations mounting, ACS2 represents Africa’s strongest opportunity yet to define its priorities, build alliances, and speak with one voice on the future of the planet.
