KEYIR NEWS — In a decisive move aimed at improving service delivery and institutional efficiency, the Addis Ababa City Council has unanimously approved a draft regulation to restructure four key government offices. The decision was made during the Council’s 4th regular session of its 4th year of operation.
The regulation, submitted by the City Cabinet and codified under Draft Regulation No. 13/2016, proposes a set of structural changes that city leaders believe will enhance public service coordination and modernize sectoral management.
One of the major highlights of the session was the detailed discussion on the need to elevate the tourism sector. As a result, the Council approved the establishment of the Tourism Commission as an independent institution. Officials believe this will allow for better strategic focus on unlocking the city’s cultural and economic potential in the tourism industry.
Further structural decisions included the merger of the Design and Construction Works Office with the Construction of Huge Projects Office, aimed at reducing redundancy and improving efficiency in city infrastructure planning and execution.
Second, the Social Trust Fund Office will be merged with the Community Participation and Goodwill Coordination Commission, in an effort to unify social development initiatives and boost civic engagement.
Then the responsibility for the development and management of public toilets will be transferred from the Urban Beautification and Urban Development Office to the Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority, aligning sanitation infrastructure with water management services.
City officials praised the Council’s unanimous approval of the changes as a proactive step toward better governance and more coordinated service delivery for the people of Addis Ababa.
The session reflects a growing commitment within the city administration to restructure with purpose, ensuring that institutions are aligned with both present needs and future development goals.
