KEYIR NEWS:- A digital map detailing the national distribution of schools was unveiled in the presence of Education Minister Professor Berhanu Nega.
The Minister announced that the mapping initiative aims to support fair and data-driven decisions in school construction, helping to ensure equitable access to education across the country.
He criticised past practices in which school locations were influenced by ethnicity, politics, or favouritism, rather than objective needs and demographic data.
Under the new system, individuals or donor organisations wishing to build schools in Ethiopia can do so using accurate, accessible data, without relying on government intermediaries or political influence.
Professor Berhanu stressed that equal educational opportunities must be available to all Ethiopians and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive national education reform.
Yohannes Wegaso (PhD), Executive Director of the Education Programme Quality and Improvement, added that the map contains detailed data on school distribution by kebele, population size, infrastructure, and more.
He encouraged donors and stakeholders to use the tool to identify underserved areas and align their efforts with national priorities.
Future school construction, he said, will follow predefined standards set out in the map.
Local and international development partners attended the launch event, signalling broad support for the new initiative.
