* 26 cities reaching 5G across Ethiopia.
KEYIR NEWS - Ethio telecom has expanded 4G network services to 512 additional cities in the 2025/26 fiscal year, bringing the total number of cities with access to 4G to 936.
The announcement was made by CEO Frehiwot Tamiru during a media briefing on the company’s annual performance and its completed three-year “Lead Growth” strategy.
Presenting the results in Addis Ababa, Frehiwot confirmed that the three-year plan, launched to strengthen nationwide connectivity, has been fully implemented.
The strategy aimed to enhance digital inclusion, modernise infrastructure, and expand the company’s market reach in a competitive telecom environment.
In the just-ended fiscal year, 1,683 new mobile sites were built across the country, bringing the total number of active sites to 10,010. These upgrades have significantly boosted Ethio Telecom’s network coverage and service quality.
The CEO also highlighted progress on 5G deployment. Sixteen new cities were brought online with 5G services during the fiscal year, increasing the total number of cities with 5G access to 26.
“Our efforts are centred on improving service accessibility and network efficiency,” Frehiwot stated. “The expansion of 4G and 5G reflects our commitment to delivering reliable and modern telecom infrastructure.”
The performance review marks a critical phase for Ethio telecom, which is navigating increasing competition, particularly following the partial liberalisation of the telecom sector and the entry of Safaricom Ethiopia.
The company is now poised to implement a new strategic plan, building on its expanded infrastructure and growing customer base. It also aims to introduce innovative digital solutions and customer-centric services in the coming fiscal year.
Ethio telecom’s latest achievements place it in a stronger position to support the digital transformation goals and to play a key role in the national digital economy.
