Council Concludes Regular Session with Major Budget Hike and Key Bureau Appointments
KEYIR NEWS - The Oromia Regional State Council has approved a record 400.7 billion Br budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year, marking a 40.5pc increase from the previous year. The budget was ratified during the second day of the Council’s 9th regular meeting under its sixth working term, fourth year.
The significant boost in regional spending reflects ongoing efforts to accelerate service delivery and infrastructure development across Ethiopia’s largest regional state. Officials indicated that the additional allocation is intended to complete outstanding projects and scale up regional programmes.
Alongside the primary budget, the Council also endorsed a supplementary budget of 30.2 billion Br for the 2024/25 fiscal year. The supplementary allocation is aimed at addressing funding gaps in existing programmes and ensuring continuity in public service provision.
The session concluded with the appointment of new leadership to key regional bureaus. Mesete Assefa was appointed as Head of the Oromia Land Administration Bureau, while Dr Yeshi Jima was confirmed to lead the Regional Trade Bureau.
The Council’s two-day meeting wrapped up on July 13, 2025, in Addis Ababa, adopting a series of decisions that signal continued emphasis on administrative reform and regional development priorities.
