KEYIR NEWS - In a bid to enhance institutional ethos and taxpayer engagement, the Ministry of Revenue has convened a capacity-building workshop focused on cultivating a service-oriented mindset among staff at its High Taxpayers Branch Office.
The training, delivered by renowned behavioural science expert Dr Mihret Debebe, underscored the imperative of embracing a customer-centric ethos in public service delivery. Addressing participants, Dr Mihret highlighted the moral and civic dimensions of tax administration, urging staff to approach their roles not merely as bureaucratic functions, but as vital contributions to the nation's socio-economic fabric.
"You are entrusted with the stewardship of revenue planning—an obligation that extends beyond the remit of the office to include every taxpayer," remarked Dr Mihret. "When tax is properly mobilised, it becomes the foundation for national development, manifesting in improved infrastructure and public services that benefit all."
Dr Mihret further implored participants to serve with sincerity and integrity, drawing attention to the psychological power of purposeful service. "The human mind is inclined towards light," he said. "By doing good, we encourage taxpayers to honour their civic responsibilities with a sense of dignity and pride."
Echoing this sentiment, Ato Taressa Ensesu, Director of the High Taxpayers Office, noted the strategic relevance of the training. He stressed that staff must internalise the principles discussed to better understand the taxpayer’s perspective and to uphold ethical standards in their day-to-day interactions.
The training forms part of a broader institutional reform aimed at enhancing public trust, streamlining service delivery, and ultimately strengthening Ethiopia’s tax culture through behavioural change and professional integrity.
