TPLF Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Warns Against Renewed Threat of Conflict

KEYIR NEWS - In a strongly worded weekly message, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to a peaceful political resolution, asserting that “the just demands of the people of Tigray cannot be suppressed by the threat of war.”

Recounting a recent visit by a delegation from the Ethiopian Conference of Religions, the TPLF stated that the people of Tigray remain steadfast in their cultural and political tradition of dialogue and mediation, despite the continued provocations and humanitarian distress. Senior leaders who met with the interfaith delegation described the people’s enduring sacrifices for peace, noting that “no one desires peace more than the people of Tigray.”

The statement lamented what it described as “renewed intimidation tactics” by the federal government, accusing it of rearming local militias and re-imposing fuel blockades, actions the TPLF likened to the wartime siege that devastated the region in previous years. It also expressed grave concern over the fate of displaced Tigrayans attempting to return to their homes, claiming they face insecurity and systematic violence.

While reaffirming its commitment to the Pretoria Agreement, the TPLF accused the government of failing to uphold its responsibilities, especially concerning the safe repatriation of internally displaced persons and the restoration of contested territories.

“The people of Tigray are being forced into suffering—not by choice, but by necessity,” the message read. “The campaign of fear and displacement must end.”

The TPLF concluded by pledging to persist in its peaceful political struggle, stating that sovereignty and justice are inseparable, and called on all peace-seeking actors to recognise the human cost of inaction.

“Respect for sovereignty begins with justice for the oppressed,” the statement declared.
