KEYIR NEWS:- The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to the Pretoria Peace Agreement, in response to remarks made by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during his appearance before the Parliament earlier this week.
In his address, the Prime Minister stated that Tigray’s leadership was showing renewed interest in armed conflict, citing miscalculations and foreign influence. While asserting that the Tigray issue could be resolved peacefully, he called on religious leaders, diplomats, and investors to help avert further instability.
The TPLF rejected the implication of war intentions, stressing that it continues to prioritise a peaceful resolution. It underscored that while the Pretoria Agreement succeeded in halting mass bloodshed and restarting essential services, it fell short on critical commitments particularly the return of displaced persons, restoration of constitutional sovereignty, and accountability for crimes committed during the war.
The statement accused the federal government of undermining the peace process by supporting armed actors in contested regions, restricting fuel flows into Tigray, and targeting Tigrayans in Addis Abeba. Despite this, the TPLF said it remained engaged with the African Union-led process and called for an urgent high-level meeting to assess the agreement’s implementation.
It further invited observers, including international diplomats and religious leaders, to visit Tigray and verify its peaceful posture.
“The pursuit of justice and sustainable peace remains our first and only choice,” the statement concluded, urging the international community to uphold its responsibility in safeguarding the fragile peace.
