CBE Disburses Over One Billion Dollars in Foreign Exchange


KEYIR NEWS — The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has announced that it has disbursed over one billion dollars in foreign exchange since the start of the current Ethiopian fiscal year on July 1, 2025.

In a statement issued to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), the Bank highlighted its continued efforts to support the country’s foreign exchange needs by consistently providing foreign currency to its customers across various sectors.

On August 10, 2025, the CBE approved foreign exchange requests amounting to 420.4 million dollars, covering a wide range of needs. This follows the approval of additional foreign exchange applications worth 541.4 million dollars for 1,140 customers over the two-week period from July 22 to August 9, 2025.

These approvals are in addition to the Bank’s regular daily foreign currency allocations for essential imports such as fuel, fertilizer, and service payments.

In total, the Bank has disbursed 1.034 billion dollars in foreign exchange since July 1, 2025, underscoring its vital role in facilitating trade and services in Ethiopia.

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia reaffirmed its commitment to meeting the foreign exchange demands of its customers and supporting national economic priorities through sustained and strategic currency allocations.
