KEYIR NEWS- The Embassy of Ethiopia in Israel has reiterated that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) poses no threat to any nation, describing the project instead as a source of cooperation and mutual benefit for the region.
In a statement, the embassy underscored that the dam stands as a testament to Ethiopia’s longstanding and principled commitment to regional integration and stability.
It emphasized that GERD is predicated on win-win outcomes, aiming to foster economic growth, energy access, and shared prosperity among neighboring countries.
“GERD is not a threat to anyone, but a boon for shared opportunity,” the embassy noted, reaffirming Ethiopia’s stance that the project is designed to meet development needs while upholding the principles of equitable and reasonable use of transboundary water resources.
Ethiopia has consistently argued that the hydroelectric dam, Africa’s largest, will supply much-needed renewable energy to millions, both within Ethiopia and across the region.
Officials stress that its benefits extend beyond borders, creating avenues for cooperation rather than conflict.
The embassy also highlighted Ethiopia’s broader vision of regional stability through sustainable development, echoing Addis Ababa’s repeated calls for dialogue and understanding among all Nile Basin countries.
The GERD, now advancing toward full operational capacity, remains central to Ethiopia’s ambition of achieving energy security and economic transformation while contributing to the wider regional power grid.
