Girma Amente Appointed as Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United Nations and WTO

KEYIR NEWS — Girma Amente (PhD), former Minister of Agriculture, has been appointed as the Permanent Representative of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the appointment and extended its gratitude to Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, for entrusting Dr. Girma with this critical diplomatic role.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that the appointment is a testament to the AU’s high regard for Ethiopia’s continued leadership and representation of African interests on the global stage. 

It also emphasized its strong confidence in Dr. Girma Amente’s capacity to carry out his new responsibilities with distinction, citing her extensive leadership experience and commitment to continental priorities.

Dr. Girma’s new role will involve advancing the African Union’s strategic interests within the multilateral systems of the UN and WTO, particularly in areas related to trade, agriculture, sustainable development, and global cooperation.
