KEYIR NEWS - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) spent August pushing a wave of new projects and investments, underscoring his government’s bid to reshape the economy and strengthen its infrastructure.
As per the statement released from PM office today, the month’s biggest milestone came with the signing of a $2.5 billion agreement between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Nigeria’s Dangote Group to build a urea fertilizer complex in Gode.
The plant, expected to produce three million metric tons annually within 40 months, is designed to cut imports, create thousands of jobs, and boost Ethiopia’s agricultural competitiveness.
Abiy also inaugurated major urban upgrades in the capital, including the Entoto–Arat Kilo Plaza corridor and the 21.5-kilometer Addis Ababa Riverside Project. Both projects introduce bike lanes, pedestrian walkways, and public amenities while expanding green spaces and reducing pollution.
Beyond the capital, the Prime Minister toured eco-tourism and farming initiatives in Arbaminch and Wolayta Sodo, where he praised contributions to the Green Legacy program.
In Benishangul-Gumuz, he inspected the Kumruk gold factory and highlighted mining as a key pillar of Ethiopia’s diversification strategy.
The month closed with Abiy’s interview on his latest book, The Medemer State, in which he said the philosophy of “synergy” continues to guide Ethiopia’s governance.
Officials say the initiatives reflect a renewed push to attract investment, create jobs, and project an image of national transformation.
