President Taye Atske Selassie Holds High-Level Talks with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

KEYIR NEWS  - President Taye Atske Selassie was warmly received in Brussels by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, marking a significant step toward deepening strategic relations between Ethiopia and the European Union. 

The discussions underscored both sides’ commitment to broadening cooperation across a wide range of priority sectors.

The leaders held in-depth talks focusing on digital transformation, energy development, public health, migration management, peace, and regional security. 

Both underscored the importance of building sustainable partnerships that align with long-term development goals and promote stability and innovation.

Central to their dialogue was the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, a flagship initiative designed to mobilize investments in sustainable infrastructure and foster equitable growth partnerships with global partners. 

President von der Leyen emphasized that the strategy reflects the EU’s determination to work with Ethiopia on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests, and mutual benefits.

President Taye highlighted Ethiopia’s progress in digital connectivity, green energy, and economic reforms, expressing appreciation for the EU’s continued support in advancing technology-driven development and regional peace efforts. 

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the EU in achieving sustainable growth and addressing shared global challenges.

Both leaders agreed to continue high-level engagements aimed at transforming their cooperation into concrete initiatives that benefit citizens across both regions. 

The meeting reaffirmed the EU–Ethiopia partnership as a cornerstone for advancing peace, prosperity, and digital innovation in Africa and beyond.
